C-NRPP / PNCR-C certified 4 days: sale or purchase 91 days: Health Canada method

Health Canada recommends a measurement of at least 3 months (91 days), preferably during the heating season, to estimate annual exposure. The 4-day detector is a fast screen, including before a home sale or purchase.

Which radon test should you order?

4-day detector — sale or purchase

When the closing timeline is tight (offer, inspection, buyer or seller decision), the short test screens the home in four days. It does not replace the 91-day measurement Health Canada recommends.

Also useful after work on the house, or for a one-off check.

91-day detector — reference measurement

Radon changes with the seasons. A 91-day (about 3 months) test, ideally in winter when the house is closed and heated, gives a more representative average.

Use this format when you want to know if mitigation is actually needed.

C-NRPP certification

Gaz Radon Québec is certified under the Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program (C-NRPP / PNCR-C) for measurement and mitigation. The lab report is readable. If the result is above 200 Bq/m³, we can design a system for the house.

Health Canada guideline: 200 Bq/m³. Above that, mitigation is recommended. The test measures the level; it does not remove radon.

Radon test price in Canada

Detector $39.99 + shipping and laboratory $25, plus tax. Same price for 4 days or 91 days.

How the test works

  1. Place the detector in the lowest lived-in room, at breathing height, away from doors, windows and heat sources.
  2. Leave it in place 4 days or 91 days, depending on the kit.
  3. Send it back for laboratory analysis (prepaid return).
  4. Read the result. Above 200 Bq/m³, we can talk mitigation.

Frequently asked questions

Which test for a home sale or purchase?

The 4-day detector fits a short real-estate timeline. Tell your realtor: it is a screen, not the annual measurement. The 91-day test remains the reference if you have time, especially in the heating season.

Why 91 days and not only 4 days?

Health Canada recommends at least 3 months. Radon changes with weather, ventilation and heating. Four days screens; 91 days estimates annual exposure.

Do I need to test in winter?

The heating season (house closed) is better for the long-term test. A 4-day test can be done any time if you need a fast screen.

Are you C-NRPP certified?

Yes. Measurement and mitigation are done by C-NRPP / PNCR-C certified professionals.

How much is a radon test in Canada?

$39.99 for the detector + $25 for shipping and the laboratory, plus tax. Same price for 4 days or 91 days.

Is the radon test free?

Some organizations, including the Lung Association, sometimes run programs. Our detectors are paid: lab report and support if mitigation is needed.

What if the result is above 200 Bq/m³?

Mitigation is recommended. We install a system suited to the foundation. Ask for a quote.

Need a test?

Order a detector. If the level is high, the mitigation page explains the installation.
