A straightforward slab suction in an accessible basement is a different job from a finished lower level, a crawl space, or a pipe that has to travel across the house to clear the roof. Asking “what does radon mitigation cost in my city” skips the only thing that changes the invoice.
What should be in the quote
- Where the suction point goes, and where the pipe exits.
- A fan rated for continuous duty, and a gauge you can see.
- Sealing at the suction point and at obvious slab openings.
- A plan to retest after the system has run.
A very low quote that skips the retest, or that offers to “test” with the installer’s own short reading as the only proof, is the one to question. How the system works.
The 4-day test is a first reading. The 91-day test is the length Health Canada uses to judge a full heating season. Both are $59 before tax. Shipping, the prepaid return, and the lab are included. Tax is extra. The PDF report is emailed within 2 business days after the lab receives the detector.
Above 200 Bq/m³, the fix is a fan that pulls soil gas from under the slab and exhausts it above the roof. Radon Gas is C-NRPP certified for testing and for mitigation, and ships kits across Canada. Start from the Canada test page.
