An HRV exhausts stale air and brings outdoor air in. In a tight house that helps humidity and everyday pollutants. Radon keeps arriving from the soil. Diluting the room does not stop the source.
What you can expect
A well-balanced unit can lower the concentration somewhat, and not evenly in every room. A unit that unbalances the house can also change how hard the house pulls on the soil. Nobody should promise you will land under 200 Bq/m³ from ventilation alone.
Order of steps
Test first, with the HRV running the way you actually use it. If the report is over 200 Bq/m³, the reliable path is suction under the slab. How that system works.
The 4-day test is a first reading. The 91-day test is the length Health Canada uses to judge a full heating season. Both are $59 before tax. Shipping, the prepaid return, and the lab are included. Tax is extra. The PDF report is emailed within 2 business days after the lab receives the detector.
Above 200 Bq/m³, the fix is a fan that pulls soil gas from under the slab and exhausts it above the roof. Radon Gas is C-NRPP certified for testing and for mitigation, and ships kits across Canada. Start from the Canada test page.
